Portfolio Allocations

Compare Asset Allocations to Target Allocations or Managers

The Portfolio Allocation lens provides a clear view of how assets are distributed across asset classes within your workspace. It allows you to evaluate allocation structure at both the entity and manager level, and compare actual allocations against a defined target.

Copia_Allocations_Comparables_Default

By default, the Portfolio Allocation lens displays the Root Entity with All Managers selected. This provides a consolidated view of the entire portfolio structure, showing total allocation across all asset classes before any filters or comparisons are applied.

Allocations can be viewed in percentage (%) or dollar ($) format, depending on how you want to analyze exposure.

The Entity Switcher in the top right corner of the screen does not affect data for this lens. All filtering for this view is controlled independently by using the Comparables button to configure which entities, managers, and allocations to display.

Configuring Allocations & Comparables

Click Comparables in the top right to open the filtering panel.

Within the Allocation section, the default dropdowns will display:

  • The workspace Root Entity

  • All Managers

This mirrors the default graph view. Until Comparables is toggled on, the chart only reflects the total consolidated allocation for the selected entity and managers.

Turning Comparables On

When the Comparables toggle is turned on:

  • You can choose between Target Allocation and Manager comparison modes.

  • The visualization and filtering behavior change depending on the selection.

Remember to press "Select" in the bottom right corner to save your selections and update the chart.

Target Allocations

Target Allocation mode compares actual allocations against a defined strategic model.

You can select an existing pre-loaded reference into your workspace or create a custom one by clicking New Custom Target Allocation in the dropdown.

When creating a custom allocation, enter a required name and define either a single percentage or a range for each asset class. Any blank asset classes are automatically assigned 0%. Click "Save" when finished to view your new allocation on the chart.  (All allocations can be edited or deleted  by using  the "Edit Custom Allocations" under the Target Allocation field.)

In this mode, the chart displays a light blue band when allocation falls in  the target range or diagonal orange lines  when it  falls outside the target range. This makes it easy to identify overweights, underweights, and allocations that remain within range

Manager Comparisons

When Manager is selected, the comparison shifts from alignment to structural comparison.

Copia_Allocations_Comparables_SidePanel_Comparables_Manager

The Manager dropdown in the Allocation section becomes disabled, and individual managers are selected directly within the Comparables panel. Up to 3 managers can be added for side-by-side comparison.

In Manager mode:

  • The shaded target bands disappear.

  • Each selected manager appears as a separate colored bar overlay.

This view answers the question: how do our managers allocation differ from one another?

Viewing Asset-Level Details

Clicking into an asset class expands the view to reveal the underlying assets, including each asset’s percentage of the asset class, percentage of the total portfolio, and current market value.
