Transactions

Transactions are the bedrock of metrics and reporting, and are used throughout to track income, update values, and build the history of an asset.

An asset can have many holdings, holdings can be associated with unique accounts, and accounts house transactions. A Holding will have a variety of transaction types. There are four ways to add or edit Transactions in the Back Office.

  • Manually adding the Transactions
  • Adding the transactions via a Spreadsheet Import
  • Import them from documents
  • Import them from data feeds

Manually Adding Transactions

First, go to the transactions tab of the holding and select the '+Add Transaction' button in the top right hand corner.

Enter the transaction details as required

AAPL Insert Transaction

  1. This Transaction (Single Transaction) vs Repeating Transactions: When entering transactions you want to specify whether this is a single one off transaction or a Repeating Transaction like monthly Income as seen below.
  2. Date - Enter the date in the YYYY-MM-DD format
  3. Transaction Type: Choose the Transaction Type that corresponds to the transaction you wish to enter.
  4. Create Corresponding Market Observation: If selected, the transaction will create a market observation that will update the value of the asset. Depending on the transaction type, this will either increase, decrease or have no affect on the value of the asset.
  5. Is this a Reversal Transaction?: If you need to reverse a transaction, select 'Yes' for this field. Examples of when you might want to do this include reimbursing fees or recalling Capital Calls. However, please note that reverse stocksplits are already a transaction type within Copia and do not fall under this category.
  6. Do you want to manually override the Cost Basis: Allows you to set your own custom cost basis, in scenarios where don't like the way the default metrics are running their calculations.

Repeating Transactions

AAPl Repeating TransactionsEntering Repeating transactions is very similar to one off transactions; however, you have to specify frequency and date range.

  1. Transaction Frequency: This refers to how often you want the transaction to repeat. For instance, if the asset receives monthly income, you would select "Monthly" as the transaction frequency.
  2. Start Date/End Date: Repeating transactions involve multiple transaction dates that are spread out based on the Transaction Frequency. To set up a repeating transaction, simply specify the date of the first transaction and the date of the last transaction.
