Assets

The building blocks of your portfolio, and how they work together to track your investments

Overview

Assets and holdings are the fundamental building blocks of managing your wealth in Copia. Whether you're tracking stocks, real estate, or private equity investments, understanding these concepts will help you organize your portfolio effectively.

Assets

An asset represents any investment in your portfolio. This could be:

  • Stocks
  • Real estate properties
  • Private equity fund investments
  • Any other investment vehicle

Assets serve as the foundation of your wealth tracking in Copia, storing basic information about each investment.

Holdings

A holding represents your specific ownership stake in an asset. It tracks:

  • Who owns the asset (entity)
  • Where it's held
  • How you interact with the investment.
Think of an asset as the investment itself, and a holding as how you specifically own and interact with that investment.

Creating Assets Manually

Step-by-Step Process

  1. Navigate to the Assets page
  2. Click the "Add Assets" button
  3. Enter the required details:
    • Asset name
    • Asset class (select from dropdown or choose "Other")
    • Owning entity
    • Domiciled country
    • Reporting currency
  4. Optional: Add current market value

What Happens When You Save

When you click Save, Copia automatically:

  1. Creates the new asset
  2. Generates a default holding
  3. Records the market value (if provided)

Automatic Asset Creation

Copia's Agentic AI can automatically create assets when processing documents:

  • When you upload documents referencing new assets
  • The system recognizes and creates the asset
  • Associates relevant documents automatically

Best Practice

Manual asset creation is recommended for:

  • Assets without associated documents
  • Properties and physical assets

Next Steps

After creating an asset, you can:

  • View it in the asset list
  • Access associated details and documents
  • Track market values
  • Manage related holdings
